Life Depends on Rivers®
We work for a future when every river is clean and healthy for people and wildlife.
How Protected are Our Nation's Rivers?
A first-of-its-kind study by American Rivers and Conservation Science Partners reveals that America’s rivers are alarmingly under protected.
What's New
What we do
Protect healthy rivers
We aim to protect 1 million miles of free-flowing rivers by 2030. This includes safeguarding our healthiest, most scenic rivers on public lands and waterways near where people live.
Restore free-flowing rivers
We are leading a national effort to remove 30,000 outdated, unsafe dams and reconnecting 100,000 acres of floodplains to improve wildlife habitat, clean water, and the safety of our communities.
Ensure clean water
Every living thing depends on clean water. And much of that water comes from rivers. We protect drinking water sources for millions of people and keep pollution out of streams that flow through our neighborhoods.
Mobilize support for rivers
Nearly everyone in our country lives within a mile of a river but few know what that river provides. We envision a future in which every river has multitudes of champions speaking up for it. Because only by working together can we adapt and thrive.
