Bruce joined American Rivers in June 2016 with more than 25 years’ experience developing successful membership programs for some of the nation’s most recognized and respected environmental organizations including, The Nature Conservancy, Defenders of Wildlife, The Wilderness Society and World Wildlife Fund.
Through direct marketing, donor stewardship and member cultivation, Bruce is working to create a broad base of financial support for American Rivers and building upon our more than 250,000 member and supporter base.
River Story: Bruce grew up in the Washington DC area so when asked to pick just one favorite, he chose the Potomac River. His Potomac River Memories include childhood picnics at River Bend Park, along the Virginia shore, day hikes and rock climbing at Great Falls on the Maryland side, fishing for catfish near National Airport and kayaking near Key Bridge in Georgetown.
But many other rivers have been important to Bruce throughout his life.
While majoring in journalism at West Virginia University, Bruce spent much of his free time on the Monongahela and Cheat rivers fishing, tubing and rafting.
In 2000, just prior to his wedding, Bruce earned his bareboat certificate on the Severn River in Annapolis in preparation for his honeymoon – chartering a sailboat in the Ionian and Saronic islands in Greece with his wife Lisa.
And, Bruce, Lisa and their two children, Morgan and Will, spend family vacations visiting various rivers sailing, fishing, swimming, camping and just hanging out.
