10/27/25 WASHINGTON D.C. — American Rivers applauds Sen. Martin Heinrich (D-NM), Ranking Member of the Natural Resources Committee, and Sen. Tim Sheehy (R-MT) for their bipartisan effort to launch the Senate Stewardship Caucus. The caucus aims to protect and expand access to the nation’s lands and waters, support wildlife conservation, and restore habitat.

“Now is a critical time to build on our country’s bipartisan legacy of responsible stewardship of our national landscape. We won’t be able to meet the moment of need and provide for future generations without having everyone at the table as we move forward,” said Tom Kiernan, CEO of American Rivers. “Our public lands are a common ground that inspire millions each year, provide clean water, and are the birthplace for hunting and fishing traditions. This caucus is a fantastic step to ensuring their continued protection and bringing further attention to conservation opportunities on private lands as well.”

Additional inaugural members of the caucus include Sen. Catherine Cortez Masto (D-NV) Sen. Thom Tillis (R-NC), Sen. John Hickenlooper (D-CO), and Sen. Steve Daines (R-MT). Rep. Gabe Vasquez (D-NM) and Rep. Ryan Zinke (R-MT) led the creation of a similar caucus — the Public Lands Caucus — in the House earlier this year.
