Dam Removal Webinars

Rivers and the communities that depend on them face unprecedented threats to their vitality. The impacts of climate change, dams, and habitat fragmentation have created a crisis in the decline of freshwater species and threaten the health and safety of communities. Join American Rivers’ National Dam Removal Program for webinars on expanding dam removal work across the nation, and learn how we can work together to address the climate crisis through river restoration.

American Rivers has set a goal to remove 30,000 dams and reconnect 300,000 miles of river by 2050. We are developing strategies for each sector of our community of practice to achieve this ambitious goal. Our webinars dive into these transformational strategies and key concepts in dam removal to support the work of our community of practice.

State of Dam Removals in the U.S. – 2026

March 18, 2026, 1 pm ET

Removing outdated, unsafe dams we no longer need is the fastest, most effective way to bring rivers back to life.

Our annual State of Dam Removals in the U.S. webinar returns on March 18, 2026. American Rivers maintains the nation’s most comprehensive database of completed dam removals, with more than 2,200 projects nationwide. We will share stats and stories from across the country on projects completed in 2025 that illustrate how dam removals are restoring rivers, reconnecting watersheds, and addressing public safety concerns.

Across the United States, rivers and the communities that depend on them are navigating a range of challenges, including aging infrastructure, extreme weather, and habitat fragmentation. Dam removal has emerged as a practical, science-based tool for improving river function, reducing safety risks, and supporting long-term community and ecosystem health. This webinar will highlight 2025 trends in dam removal and what recent projects can teach us about the role dam removal can play in revitalizing rivers and communities.
