Sam grew up near Boston and recently graduated from the University of Virginia, where he researched coastal plant and invertebrate community composition at the Virginia Coast Reserve Long-Term Ecological Research Station. He has also supported conservation partnerships between wildlife sanctuaries and zoos/aquariums through his role with the Wildlife Restoration Foundation.
