Our Core Values
To achieve our vision of a nation of clean, healthy rivers that sustain and connect us, American Rivers protects wild rivers, restores damaged rivers, and conserves clean water for people and nature.
In achieving our mission, American Rivers is guided by six core values: Passion, Integrity, Teamwork, Commitment, Balance, and Diversity, equity and inclusion. These core values are the foundation for our work and inform all of our interactions and communications both inside and outside of the organization.
We are passionate about conservation and work to be environmentally responsible in all we do. We stand up for rivers, give them a voice, restore their vitality, and keep them healthy for future generations. We believe rivers connect us to our past, to nature, and to one another.
We act with honesty and respect toward one another, and everyone we work with. We carry out our conservation mission and manage American Rivers with transparency and the highest ethical standards.
We seek out, and value, partnerships with diverse individuals and organizations to realize our vision. We work together as a team and value one another as family. We trust in the goodwill, competency, and integrity of our colleagues and partners. We collaborate with others and integrate our skills to achieve lasting conservation results.
We are committed to achieving results, with practical, on-the-ground, sustainable solutions. We strive for excellence in our work and results. We follow through on projects and meet our deadlines. Colleagues, partners, and supporters can rely on us.
We are realistic problem solvers, able to balance idealism with pragmatic solutions. We also recognize the importance of creating a healthy and enriching work environment, encouraging one another to balance our lives outside of work, and our service to American Rivers’ mission.
Diversity, Equity and Inclusion
We value and celebrate diversity, equity and inclusion in all that we do. We are at our best when we are engaging with, and learning from, a diversity of individuals and communities, including those who have been marginalized and underrepresented in conservation. We strive to craft conservation solutions that directly address inequities. Our effectiveness in achieving our mission depends on equitable and inclusive efforts that embrace a wide range of perspectives and life experiences in the workplace and in the communities with which we engage.
