Southeast Region
As drought puts unprecedented strain on the Southeast's rivers and water supply, and with global warming promising more of the same for years to come, our work in this region couldn’t be more important or timely. We are advocating at the local and state levels for water efficiency measures that will deliver a secure, reliable supply of clean water, and we are fighting costly, destructive, and short-sighted proposals for new dams. We are working with local communities and land trusts to protect rivers through establishment of Blue Trails, so that these rivers can continue to provide clean water, recreation, quality of life, and economic benefits. And, our work to restore rivers through dam reform and dam removal is leading to improved flows and water quality in hundreds of river miles, and the protection of more than 10,000 acres of riverside lands.
