American Rivers Mourns Passing of Visionary River Advocate and Conservationist Ted Turner

5/6/2026 WASHINGTON D.C. — American Rivers is saddened to learn of the passing of Ted Turner, a dedicated river advocate and conservationist and longtime supporter of American Rivers work in the Southeast and Northern Rockies.
“Ted’s deep, personal commitment to protecting and restoring rivers touched countless people. We should all find inspiration in his vision and recognition that clean water and healthy rivers are essential for healthy communities and thriving ecosystems. We mourn his loss and will forever value the improved health he brought to our rivers,” said Tom Kiernan, president and CEO of American Rivers.
