In 2016 the US Fish and Wildlife Service’s Partners for Fish and Wildlife program removed three dams on the West Fork River in Harrison County. Volunteers will be among the first to witness the amazing transformation of this beautiful river as it returns to its natural state. These cleanups help rid the river of trash that has collected behind the dams over the past 100 years. So far we have removed more than 54,000 pounds and over 800 tires!
This round will begin in West Milford, WV and we will float six miles downstream to former site of the Highland Dam. Meet us in the gravel parking area located near the intersection of Mill Street and Water Street Parking is available at the West Milford United Methodist Church (a short walk from the meeting site). We will provide gloves, life jackets, canoes, and boats (additional boats are welcome). Bring a lunch, plenty of water, sunscreen, and shoes that cover your toes (no flip-flops). Be prepared for a wet, muddy, and scenic day!
