The Kansas Alliance for Wetlands and Streams (KAWS) is sponsoring the annual Arkansas River Clean Up on April 27, 2024. This event brings together nearly 1000 volunteers from different walks of life to work together and remove over 2 tons of litter from the banks of the Arkansas River in
the City of Wichita. This provides for a cleaner river and a safer area for citizens to enjoy the river. Funds will also be used to support the “trash trap” program happening along the tributaries of the Ark River. Participants will receive an event shirt and a free lunch.

Funds are also used for event support such as porta-potties, table/chair/tent rental, food, marketing, purchase of grabbers used to pull litter out of the river, and project management.

This is the 21st year for this program and it continues to grow. The Ark River Cleanup Committee is trying to meet the demands of volunteers to impact a wider footprint along the Ark River. Currently we have to busses that shuttle volunteers north and south, but we will need to add a third in 2024 to get volunteers back in a timely manner. It is a great problem to have!
