Join us for the Annual Cleanup on the Manistee River! The Kalkaska Conservation District has partnered with various organizations to host cleanup days on the Manistee River. Each year the District and partners will focus on sections of the river that are in the most need. 2018 cleanup days will focus on 22 river miles over the summer.
Saturday, August 4, 2018: Rainbow Jim Bridge (Coster Rd) to Lucas Road. Approximately 5 river miles. Meet at Rainbow Jim Bridge in the morning. We will launch from Rainbow Jim Bridge after introductions and a safety meeting. Snacks en route will be available and lunch will be provided at the end of the clean up. Our partners will meet us a Lucas Road (Missaukee Bridge) and shuttle volunteers and watercraft back to Rainbow Jim Bridge for lunch after the clean up.
This event will be held rain or shine. However, in the event of severe inclement weather (thunder and lightning) the event will be postponed until the next day.
Participants should bring:
-Appropriate clothing and layers
-Reusable water bottle
-Canoe or kayak, paddles, and PFD*
Participants will be provided:
-Long Sleeve Cotton T-shirt
-Sunscreen & Bug spray
-Snacks & Lunch
-Canoe or kayak- MUST RESERVE 2 DAYS PRIOR TO EVENT.
*Volunteers may bring their own canoe or kayak and personal flotation device (PFD) if they prefer. Watercraft can be provided upon request by contacting Renee Penny at least 2 days prior to the event.
