“There’s a river somewhere that flows through the lives of everyone.”

-Roberta Flack

2020 has been a year like no other, with new challenges around every corner. The only normal in our lives is the ever-changing definition of “normal.” As the uncertainty pervades our lives, one constant throughout is our need for rivers as a grounding point; rivers both real and metaphorical. While we strive to find certainty in our lives, in any form, it’s rivers that have been there for us, providing not only our clean drinking water, but also giving life to our environment and giving us those rare but important moments of relaxation and peace.

Finding time to take care of ourselves, especially our mental health, has been difficult with so much uncertainty in our lives. A divisive election and a long overdue reckoning with social injustice have been layered on top of an ongoing global pandemic that continues to devastate this country.

The moments, the places, and the activities that define the rivers in our lives, are as critical to our well being as the fresh water rivers provide.

Some of us are lucky enough to have real rivers to visit, to enjoy moments of peace and contemplation. But sometimes these “rivers” come in different shapes and sizes. Whatever they look like, wherever they are, these “rivers” have been holding us up for the last eight months, and it’s time we gave a little back.

This Giving Tuesday, we’re offering a dollar for dollar match where donations up to $20,000 will be doubled, giving us $40,000 worth of critical support for the rivers that hold us up. Donate before Wednesday 12/2 to extend your support and help us protect America’s Rivers.
