After a full career at IBM with roles as a regional and global sales executive, Steve joined American Rivers in 2012 to pursue his love of rivers and fishing. As an avid fly-fisherman with a passion for catching native trout in free-flowing rivers, he built and now runs our national fishing initiative called the Anglers Fund, which connects the fishing community with our work to protect and restore important fish habitat.
Education: BS in Mathematics from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill
Favorite River: Madison River, Montana
River Story: My favorite river story is from 2015 when my 15-year-old son spotted a large cutthroat trout feeding in a tight pocket of water against the far bank of Soda Butte Creek in Yellowstone. After he put the fly right on the money, the fish ate it right away, and my son then fought it beautifully back across the strong current to where I was waiting downstream to net it. The native Yellowstone cutthroat was the biggest fish of the week.
