Colleen works with NGO and federal partners to ensure that hydropower dams comply with environmental regulations and to reform policy to ensure sufficient protection measures. Prior to joining American Rivers, she worked in international development on a range of environmental issues, including four years with United Nations Development Programme. Colleen started her career as a rafting guide before joining the Peace Corps and launching into international work, and she is thrilled to have come full circle back to working on and for rivers.
Education: B.A. Sociology/Anthropology from Lewis and Clark College, M.A. Sustainable International Development from Brandeis University
Favorite River: Rogue River
River Story: I grew up rafting with my family, and our annual trip was always the best time of the whole year. I felt (and still feel) so clearly that time on the water brought me back to the “real” world rather than away from it. We are now getting to share this with the next generation, which is the best thing ever.
