POSITION SUMMARY

American Rivers is seeking a summer intern to work either in-person or remotely with the corporate relations team. The Corporate Relations Intern will gain direct experience with nonprofit corporate fundraising and volunteer program management for the National River Cleanup® (NRC) program. Tasks may include developing new NRC tools and materials, conducting corporate research and drafting briefs, writing blogs, collecting NRC organizer stories for the website and other American Rivers publications, analyzing data, engaging in outreach, assisting with event planning and other special projects.

The intern will be invited to all relevant team and department meetings, be provided with internal and external networking opportunities and meet regularly with supervisors to discuss work and seek advice. Upon completion, the intern will have a solid grounding in corporate fundraising, familiarity with river conservation issues and a portfolio of project outputs. This internship is a great opportunity for anyone interested in obtaining valuable skills while exploring a career in nonprofit conservation or fundraising.

INTERN QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Detail-oriented and creative  
  • Interest in writing, marketing, communications, event planning and fundraising  
  • Able to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel  
  • Commitment to American Rivers’ Core Values
  • Experience in Adobe Pro, Illustrator, Photoshop and/or Canva a plus 

TIME COMMITMENT AND PAY: American Rivers’ summer internship lasts at least eight weeks between the period of May 2022 through August 2022. This internship requires a minimum commitment of 24 hours per week during regular business hours. This internship is unpaid. A teleworking subsidy of $50 per month is available during the internship period to help offset the costs of personal telecommunications and internet services. A transit subsidy of $5 per day is available to help offset the intern’s commute if commuting into an American Rivers office. In addition, American Rivers will work with the intern to obtain academic credit where available.
