2016 Was Successful, Thanks to YOU

Thanks to the commitment of our supporters, American Rivers continued to protect wild rivers, restore damaged rivers, and conserve clean water for people and nature. Here is a snapshot of the inspiring conservation achievements that we accomplished.

16 dams removed

921 miles of rivers restored through dam removal or reoperation

2.4 MILLION pounds of trash removed through National River Cleanup®

43,470 volunteers mobilized through National River Cleanup®

530 youth connected to rivers through trips and conservation projects

6,398 partners reached through trainings and presentations

$100,000 granted to local projects to improve river health and recreation

What’s in Store for 2017

November changed a lot for the river conservation movement. New incoming president, new Congress, new challenges. But even with those changes, there will be opportunities to promote proactive river conservation at the federal level. Rivers and clean water should be bipartisan issues. In fact, some of our biggest river conservation success stories have unfolded in what seemed at the time to be unlikely political circumstances.
