Our History and Accomplishments

Following are just some of our selected accomplishments in the Southeast:

Restoring Rivers

  • Led a victory over the disastrous Yazoo Pumps project that would have drained and damaged 200,000 acres of some of the South’s most vital wetlands and wasted $220 million federal taxpayer dollars.

Protecting Rivers

  • Established the Congaree River Blue Trail in South Carolina.
  • Creating the Waccamaw River Blue Trail in South Carolina as a model for working with land trusts and landowners to protect key landscapes.
  • Protected North Carolina's New River from a dam and secured Wild and Scenic protection for the river.

Water Supply

  • Issued a landmark report on water efficiency solutions in the Southeast that outlines nine proven, timely and cost-effective steps that save water and help ensure rivers remain valuable community assets.
