Thomas O'Keefe

Tom O’Keefe, Pacific Northwest Stewardship Director for American Whitewater, has been instrumental in many landmark river restoration and protection efforts in the region, including the removal of dams on the Elwha and White Salmon rivers, and protection of Wild and Scenic Rivers. Prior to joining the American Whitewater staff in 2005, O’Keefe volunteered countless hours for AW and has also helped to grow American Whitewater’s Northwest Stewardship program through his expertise in aquatic and watershed ecology.

Before joining American Whitewater, O’Keefe coordinated salmon research projects at the University of Washington focusing on the role of nutrients which they bring to river ecosystems during periods of return, as well as studies of riparian forest development along floodplain rivers. O’Keefe also taught courses in watershed ecology and management.
