Phyllis Clausen

Phyllis Claussen has been instrumental in the effort to protect and restore Washington’s White Salmon River. Starting in the 1970’s she worked with Friends of the White Salmon to oppose new dam construction on the river.

Claussen fought tirelessly for the removal of the Condit Dam in 2011, which helped to replenish threatened salmon and steelhead populations by opening up over 30 miles of spawning habitat. She also played a key role in securing Wild and Scenic River protection for the upper White Salmon River in 2005.
