Event Date | Time: 05/05/2024 | 09:00 am to 01:00 pm

The event, called “River Sweep” is held by RiverKeeper and takes place on the same day every year. This year will be the 13th Annual River Sweep. On this day, people in the community, such as myself, agree to clean up a section of land that is along the Hudson river and the NY waterway.

Our activities and timing are as follows:

– Supplies/Items delivered 830am-9am

– Set-up: 9am-10am Organizers arrive at park 830 am, set up canopies, tables, set out gear – trash bags, gloves, pickers; provide directions for volunteers who begin to arrive. The location where we will hand out trash bags and supplies and answer questions could be in front of the flagpole. It is a very clear landmark that people will recognize; we found that it did work well for last year’s clean up.

– River Sweep Clean-up: 10am-12pm The River Sweep clean-up takes place. This involves picking up trash in Valentino park, inclusive of the lawn areas to the left and to the right of the pier and as well to the beach area. If there is a need, we will do some weeding and adding of soil.

– Break-down: 12pm-1pm The clean-up is complete. Organizers will make sure that all materials are taken down and accounted for – ie the gloves, pickers and all tools are returned; the canopies and tables taken down; the trash will be secured as directed and placed in the correct place for trash pick-up; organizers will stay until we have communicated with Parks crew for trash pick-up and until trash is picked-up, if needed.

-Trash picked up 1-1:30pm
