There will be both floating and bank clean-up crews, so come dressed for whichever crew you’d like to be on. We will meet up at Downstream Adventures at 9 am to pass out trash bags and organize volunteers. Food, beer (for those over 21) and prizes for volunteers will take place at 5 at Downstream Adventures. Lunch will not be provided, but most volunteers will be near downtown Idaho Springs where there are many tasty choices! (Check out Tommyknockers, Smokin’ Yards, or Two Brother’s Deli). Though it is true we will need people to dig out shopping carts and haul trash to the dumpsters, we need people to run water, food, tools, and trash bags (both empty and full) to individuals in the creek. People to sort recyclables from the debris removed. People will be needed to help at registration, setup food and snacks as well as many other less strenuous activities. We are also authorized to sign-off on Community Service and Service Learning Hours for students. The more people we have, the easier the work will be for everyone. We will provide lunch and snacks as well as gloves. A limited number of tools are available for sign-out, but suggest bringing your own if you have them

Volunteers are also needed to arrive early and stay late for setup and break down. Photographers and Videographers also needed!

  2. The online registration will begin in January 2016.
  3. Fill in your personal information and select your stream cleanup site from the drop down menu.

What to Bring
You are encouraged to bring your own reusable water bottle. Raritan Headwaters will provide trash bags, gloves, water and snacks!

What to Wear
This event is rain or shine, dress accordingly. No one is required to get into the stream. If you choose to pick up litter on land wear a hat, sturdy boots or shoes, and long-sleeved shirts and pants for tick protection. Stream depth varies across our stream cleanup sites and changes with the weather so if you plan on getting in the stream come prepared with rubber boots or waders.

Logistics
On the morning of the cleanup, you will be greeted by your Site Coordinator at the designated meeting location. The site coordinator will have you sign-in and provide you with your trash bags, gloves, water, and snacks. The Site Coordinator will orient you to the site and explain the area to be cleaned up. When the stream cleanup is over, please bring your trash bags to the designated drop off location.

Data Collection
This year Raritan Headwaters is asking you to collect data on the number of plastic bags you cleanup. Data sheets will be provided.

Social Media
On the day of the event, volunteers are encouraged to post pictures on Instagram and Facebook using the hashtag #RHACleanStreams.
