Water Efficiency
The best, most cost-effective source of water for communities
Imagine finding a brand new source of clean water - a hidden lake or reservoir that could provide water to millions. This is the promise of water efficiency. By improving how we use and manage water, we can tap into a new source of supply that's been hiding in plain sight. Water efficiency isn't about not using water -- it's about using the water we have more wisely. It's the proven, cost-effective and immediate way to ensure safe, clean and available water for our communities and to ensure we have enough water flowing in our rivers. Water efficiency is far cheaper than getting supply through new dams, which can cost up to 8500 times more. As the population grows and as global warming puts new strains on our clean water supplies, communities in every region of the country are realizing the value of water efficiency measures like stopping leaks, improving water pricing and metering, and retrofitting buildings with water-wise appliances and fixtures. American Rivers is working at the federal, state and local levels to promote water efficiency solutions.
