Storage and Stream Flows
Keeping enough water in rivers to benefit communities and the environment
A river’s flow is its most fundamental quality. We're working to protect and restore stream flows that ensure the health of the entire river system, so that our rivers remain healthy even in the face of global warming. Only by "investing" in our rivers by ensuring they have adequate water will we be able to reap the benefits of those rivers in the future. In Washington State, we worked with irrigators to negotiate a landmark law that protects Columbia River flows at critical salmon migration times, and in California we are spearheading innovative solutions to demonstrate sustainable water supply solutions for rivers and communities. In states like South Carolina, we are pushing for legislation that will safeguard healthy flows in the state’s rivers.
