American Rivers selected as Aveda’s Regional Earth Month partner
Donations from Aveda’s mid-Atlantic stores and salons to benefit American Rivers
Washington, DC - American Rivers, the nation’s leading organization fighting to protect and restore rivers, will benefit from funds raised by Aveda stores, salons, and institutes across the mid-Atlantic region during Earth Month. Participating Aveda locations in DC, DE, MD, and VA are launching a variety of events, from cut-a-thons, and wine tastings, to ‘tip’ jars at registers throughout the month of April. One hundred percent of all proceeds will go directly to American Rivers’ efforts.
“American Rivers is committed to protecting and restoring rivers and clean water for all Americans,” said Andrew Fahlund, senior vice president for conservation at American Rivers. “We are excited to partner with Aveda, a corporate leader in environmental sustainability practices, to build support for healthy rivers across the Mid-Atlantic.”
This is Aveda’s 12th annual Earth Month fundraising drive for environmental issues around the world. For the past four years, the company has focused its efforts on preserving access to clean water and has raised $12 million for water-related causes alone. “We’re thrilled to be working with American Rivers to improve and protect our nation’s precious rivers, creeks and streams,” said Katie Galloway, director of corporate giving at Aveda. “Our shared goal is to empower communities, protect local watersheds and help make clean water accessible to everyone, everywhere.”
Healthy rivers provide a host of benefits for communities, from clean drinking water to wildlife habitat to fishing, boating, and other recreation. Sixty-five percent of our drinking water comes from rivers, but many of our rivers are too polluted to use.
Aveda’s Earth Month includes both national and international efforts, providing grants for community-based water projects in more than 40 countries, and supporting 35 regional partners in areas of the US where Aveda does business. To find an event near you, contact your local Aveda store or salon.
