(Washington, DC)  American Rivers announced today that it will be the beneficiary of donations through a photo contest sponsored by Orvis, the nation's oldest mail-order catalog company.

The contest encourages people to submit their favorite fishing or river-related photo.  Photos can depict a range of subjects, including rivers and landscapes, fellow anglers, wildlife, and more.  The winning photograph will appear on the cover of a future Orvis fly fishing catalog (mailed to millions of people) and the winning photographer will receive a $1,000 Orvis gift card or a Helios fly rod outfit.

People can vote for the winning photo and each vote requires a $1 donation to American Rivers.  The contest runs through June 1, 2010.

Visit www.Orvis.com/fishphoto to submit a photo or cast a vote.

"We're excited to see the great photos that people have to share from their experiences fishing or being out on the river," said Andrew Fahlund, Senior Vice President of Conservation for American Rivers.  "We're thrilled that Orvis has selected American Rivers.  Or work to protect and restore the nation's rivers will benefit from this promotion."

Orvis donates 5% of pre-tax profits annually to organizations that protect fish and wildlife habitat.
