Communities across the nation are beginning to recognize the variety of benefits their local rivers offer and are taking steps to ensure their protection through the creation of Blue Trails. American Rivers and its partners have been working to create the Waccamaw River Blue Trail in South Carolina and now an effort is underway to extend the Waccamaw River Blue Trail to the North Carolina portion of the river.
When complete, the Blue Trail will travel through two states from its source at Lake Waccamaw in North Carolina to Winyah Bay in South Carolina. The effort is gaining momentum with the help of some great media coverage including articles in the Georgetown Times and on SC Now.
To learn more about the effort in North Carolina, visit the website of the Waccamaw RIVERKEEPER®. For more information on how to create a Blue Trail in your community, visit the Blue Trails Guide.
