River Cleanup Showdown!
March 21, 2011 | National River Cleanup, Restoring Rivers
American Rivers has seen nothing like this in the history of National River Cleanup™ and that’s 20 years of cleaning up!). Two large cities, Los Angeles and Chicago, are competing to see how many Facebook fans they can gain prior to the two cities largest cleanup events.
Both cleanups, the 22nd annual Great Los Angeles River Cleanup and the 19th Annual Chicago River Day, are registered with the American Rivers’ National River Cleanup program. Each is working towards bringing awareness to the importance of river stewardship within an urban setting.
You can show your support of American Rivers, Friends of the Los Angeles River and Friends of the Chicago River by “liking” these groups on Facebook.
If you are in the area, you can help remove tons of trash from the LA River on April 30th or the Chicago River on May 14th.
If you are not in the area and want to host your own cleanup, visit www.AmericanRivers.org/cleanup for more information.
Thank you and Good Luck to both groups!

I am the recycling supervisor for Lafayette Consolidated Government in Lafayette, Louisiana and we were sent by the American Rivers in the past trash bags for our Trash Bash yearly event held here in our town to clean not only roadsides but also the Vermilion River throughout Lafayette Parish. the bags were a big help and we have used them all. I was wondering if I could ask again for more trash bags for our clean up events. We have a clean up event planned in March and another clean up hazardous waste day in April. Can we ask for more bags.
