Journey down the Hitchcock Creek Blue Trail
October 14, 2011 | Blue Trails, Dams & Dam Removal

Take a kayak journey down the Hitchcock Creek Blue Trail.
Until recently, a dam degrade and blocked migrating fish from spawning habitat and prevented the community of Rockingham, North Carolina from safely enjoying their river through boating and fishing.
With the help of American Rivers, NOAA, and others, the dam has been removed and plans are in the works to create a 12 mile blue trail. Local elected officials, fishing and boating groups, landowners, and other have taken steps to protect its riverside lands and improve recreational opportunities by acquiring approximately 100 acres of bottomland forest along the trail. The City of Rockingham also purchased two trail access areas and worked with the state to acquire a boat launch.
The official launch and release of a new water proof map will take place in the spring of 2012. Stay tuned!
