Tell President Obama to Stand Firm for Clean Water

March 31, 2011 | Clean Water, Protecting Rivers

Jim Bradley
Senior Director of Government Relations

The Congress is in the final negotiations on a budget deal, and there’s a rumor in the press that President Obama is willing to accept proposals to gut clean water protections that were proposed by conservative Republicans in the House of Representatives.

The White House has now backed away from those claims, but as in any negotiations, nothing’s final until it’s final.

The threat to fundamental protections for clean water and public health still looms, and that’s why we’re asking you to take action today – please tell the President to stand firm on safeguarding our rivers and clean water.

Without the core protections that we’ve enjoyed for years, our rivers will be more polluted, our drinking water will be at risk from toxins, our kids could get sick from splashing in the local stream, and our fish and wildlife will suffer.

President Obama must not cave to corporate interests who want to gut the Clean Water Act, the Endangered Species Act, and other protections, just so they can fill their wallets. Our health and safety is on the line.

Take action to protect our clean water.
