American Rivers Comments on the President's Executive Order on the Chesapeake Bay
January 12, 2010 | Clean Water
Last Friday, American Rivers submitted comments on the President’s Executive Order on the Chesapeake Bay. This order is a giant step in the right direction and we are hopeful because the Obama Administration clearly recognizes the critical importance of restoring this storied estuary and the many rivers and streams that feed it. However, the process of reviving the bay will meet new challenges as the inevitable effects of climate change become an increasing reality. As the Mid-Atlantic region faces these devastating effects, such as stronger and more frequent storms, floods, and droughts, it will be even more important to have a healthy, resilient, Chesapeake Bay. This is why we submitted suggestions to further strengthen the document by more effectively addressing these challenges.
