Not only is Rick Holton a dedicated member of American Rivers Board of Directors, he is also the Chairman of Deer Creek Watershed Friends in Missouri. The group recently registered their April 25 cleanup of Ladue Creek through National River Cleanup, an American Rivers program. Using trashbags supplied by American Rivers, the event was a huge success as it drew in 571 volunteers who worked hard to remove 9,740 pounds of trash!
Some of the interesting items they found include:
- a walking cane
- a typewriter
- a sink with hot and cold faucets
- a TV
- a new tent with stakes
- a large inflatable river raft
- a walker
- a barstool with red leather seat
- 1/2 bathtub
- one complete bathtub
- arrow heads
- a locked safe
- a rusty rifle
- 12,000 plastic bags and newspaper wrappers
You can also check out some great pictures of the event here.
If you have a river, creek or stream in your neck of the woods that could use some extra care and a good cleaning, organize and register your own cleanup at www.NationalRiverCleanup.org.
