Go Wild!

Introduction

Go Wild Campaign HeaderAbout 40 years ago, some of the best conservation minds realized that we were losing our river heritage to unchecked dam building and river habitat destruction. They set out to find a way to protect our nation’s wildest rivers much as we had for our wildest lands.

The result was the National Wild and Scenic Rivers Act (PDF), one of the strongest tools available to protect any outstanding, free-flowing river. Using this tool, river lovers have permanently protected some of our best rivers and helped communities across the country become more sustainable; as their rivers are protected, for their ecological, recreational, and economic benefits.

At a time when our nation’s natural splendor is facing a rising tide of threats, securing Wild and Scenic designation for our last, best rivers is a powerful way to preserve their beauty, health and wonder for current and future generations.

American Rivers invites you to join with us to celebrate the National Wild and Scenic River system in 2008: View our partners and Wild and Scenic trips
