What’s Your River Story?

Verde River Blue Trail, AZ | Doug Von Gausig

Rivers have always been an important part of my life. I come from a family of avid fly fishermen and my love for rivers comes from spending time with them playing in and along the rivers of the Colorado Rocky Mountains.

Having had those special experiences as a child gives even greater meaning to the work I do to connect communities – and families – to their rivers through the creation of Blue Trails.

Blue Trails are waterways adopted by local communities that are dedicated to improving family-friendly recreation such as fishing, boating, and wildlife-watching, and conserving land and water.

Just as hiking trails are designed to help people explore the land, Blue Trails help people discover their rivers and they provide a host of benefits to communities. Blue Trails:

  • Protect the environment
  • Enhance local economies
  • Promote healthy living
  • Preserve history and community identity
  • Connect people and places

Nearly every American lives within a mile of a river or stream. With so many rivers right in our own backyard, most everyone has a river story. Tell us what’s your favorite river and why on Facebook.
