Removing Dufresnse Dam on the Battenkill will restore trout habitat
Brian Graber of our River Restoration Program tours the Dufresne Dam site on the Battenkill in Manchester, Vermont, which is planned for removal in summer 2012.
The Battenkill is a popular cold water fishery with the Orvis flagship store also in Manchester. The Dufresne Dam is owned by the State of Vermont, and the project is managed and funded through the state.
American Rivers has provided survey and technical assistance. Issues with nearby wells, landowner concerns and potential impact on the railroad bridge running through the impoundment have added complexity to the project.
Construction planned for summer 2012.
