American Rivers’ National River Cleanup™ connects people across the country to their local rivers ands streams though hands-on volunteerism. In 2010, nearly 60,000 dedicated volunteers working with the National River Cleanup program registered 322 cleanup sites in 45 states, and removed 1200 tons of trash from nearly 6,000 miles of river. The trash removed ranged from cigarette butts to large appliances.

American Rivers has deemed 2011 The Year of the River because there has never been such national focus, support, and momentum for healthy rivers. You can help make the 20th anniversary of National River Cleanup more successful than ever, and celebrate The Year of the River by registering your cleanup today.

Organizers who sign up their cleanup between now and December will receive a free one-year American Rivers Membership. Never hosted a River Cleanup? The National River Cleanup Handbook answers all of your questions and provides helpful tips.
