Program Looks to Turn Dump into Water Trail
Bethany Beach Wave: Ocean City, MD – A local environmental advocacy group wants to turn the site of a former dump into a spot where kayakers can explore the area’s coastal bays.
Representatives from the Maryland Coastal Bays Program are scheduled to ask Ocean City’s Town Council for permission to create at the site what they’re calling the Ayers Creek Water Trail. The 37-acre site along Lewis Road, which includes 450 feet of shoreline, was used as a municipal dump from 1954-80. It has since been cleaned of toxic materials, and in 2007 was declared safe by the Maryland Department of Environment. Read more.
