Obama Administration’s announces new National Water Trails System

Secretary of the Interior Ken Salazar announced last week the creation of a new National Water Trails System.

The system will increase access to water-based outdoor recreation, encourage community stewardship of local waterways, and promote tourism that fuels local economies across America.

American Rivers applauds Secretary Salazar and the Obama Administration for recognizing the importance of healthy rivers to our communities. Rivers connect us to each other, to nature, and to future generations.

The new National Water Trails System will connect more Americans to their rivers, promoting healthy lifestyles, benefitting river health and clean water, and boosting local economies.
