Manheim & American Rivers Clean Up the Conestoga River

Kids participate in the Manheim's National River Cleanup of the Conestoga RiverWhat’s better than sleeping in on a Saturday morning?

In my humble opinion, it was joining over 100 Manheim employees out on the Conestoga River to clean their local waterway to benefit their community, wildlife, and nature.  Manheim Auto Auction, located in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, is part of Cox Enterprises and participates in Cox Conserves, the company’s national sustainability program. Through Cox’s partnership with American Rivers, company employees have collected more than 5 tons of trash during river cleanups.

The teamwork and enthusiasm from Manheim employees, friends and family of all ages was remarkable.  Throughout various sites along the river, an entire truck load of trash was collected in only a few hours.  Of course the river cleanup wouldn’t be complete without a few noteworthy “treasures” including: 20 tires, a big screen TV, a baby carriage, and a bicycle – to name a few.

“Our team was very excited about being involved in such a worthwhile effort that supports conservation and our local communities,” said Tim Van Dam, VP and General Manager of Manheim Pennsylvania.  “Manheim Pennsylvania employees and their families are committed to lending a hand in restoring and improving our parks and rivers for all who visit and enjoy the surrounding area.”

River cleanups help us to understand how our actions affect our watersheds. Much of the trash we removed was trash we can eliminate altogether or recycle – disposable garbage like plastic bags, plastic bottles, and food wrappers.  If we clean up our habits, we can clean up our watersheds.  This National River Cleanup and others like it, help communities witness firsthand both the positive and negative effects humans have on their local rivers.

Thank you, Cox Enterprises and Manheim for being excellent stewards of your watersheds and joining the National River Cleanup® efforts in fighting for our clean water!
