Get Outside and Play – National Get Outdoors Day
Come one, no, come all! Saturday is National Get Outdoors Day! Events are happening in all fifty states promoting recreation, fun in the sun, and providing kids and families’ sites to get outside. Outdoor participation includes everything from building a kite and constructing a fort to hiking, biking and swimming. Check out what events are going on in your neck of the woods!
In order to raise awareness, reconnect kids and families to the great outdoors, and promote healthy living, the National Get Outdoors Day was established. Our connection to the great outdoors over the last few decades has changed. Today’s children have lost 25% of playtime and 50% of unstructured outdoor activity compared to twenty years ago, while time indoors and childhood obesity has increased. Spending just a little more time outside, wherever that may be – in your backyard, along a river or at your local playground – can help to remind us just how much fun and how creative we can get by being outdoors. Not to mention how great you feel after a day in the sun – with sunscreen of course!
Saturday’s the day! Let’s get outside and explore! Tell us – how did you enjoy your National Get Outdoors Day?
