Free Courses in Pittsburgh: How to Manage a Dam Removal Project (November 9th) and Natural Flood Management (November 10th)
American Rivers is holding two free training events in Pittsburgh this November.
On November 9th, learn how to manage a dam removal project! This course will empower you to successfully lead a dam removal project in Pennsylvania. The removal of dams and other stream barriers is a practical way to meet heightened dam safety requirements and eliminate public safety hazards, while restoring rivers, improving water quality, and enhancing fish and wildlife habitat.
Topics will include:
- How to identify potential projects
- Determining project complexity
- Addressing social concerns
- Strategies for financing projects
- How to develop a scope of work
- Navigating the permitting process

On November 10th, learn about natural, non-structural approaches to flood management! The goal of this course is to train flood management partners throughout Western Pennsylvania, a region known for repetitive flood damages. Learn about new techniques and options to help lessen flood risks and impacts, while also restoring and protecting rivers and floodplains.
