Chris Unkel

Chris works to help American Rivers build partnerships with local districts, governmental and non-governmental organizations, and landowners in the Central Valley to advance river restoration, primarily by promoting and developing  floodplain restoration projects.  Chris works to identify project locations, and with local, state and federal agencies on funding for these projects and the development of regional flood plans that help guide them.

Chris Joined American Rivers in January 2013.  Prior to that he worked as Director of Public Policy for the Western Region of Ducks Unlimited for 5 years.  He worked 17 years as a Senior Field Representative for The Nature Conservancy, preceeded by posts with the California Department of Fish and Game, California Fish and Game Commission and the California Legislature.
Chris is an avid angler, hunter, woodworker and jazz saxaphonist.
