Announcing the 2010 National River Cleanup Photo Contest Winner

American Rivers would like to congratulate the Earth Club from Calallen High School who hosted a National River Cleanup™ on the Nueces River near Corpus Christi, Texas in early April this year.  Their group photo won the photo contest with 473 votes!

Linda Mix was the Cleanup Organizer and photographer. Her group successfully removed about 600 pounds of trash and debris from 2 river miles.  Linda said that the best part of the cleanup was “watching the students learn how to use a kayak and be able to pick up trash without falling into the water.”

Promotion of the contest included encouraging all school district employees to vote as well as Facebook friends and family.  The community and high school newspapers ran stories about it too.

As winners of the National River Cleanup™ Photo Contest, their photo is posted on the National River Cleanup™ homepage and will be used in other American Rivers publications through out 2011.

Thank you to all of the Organizers and Volunteers who uploaded pictures to the National River Cleanup™ Photo Contest!
