Thank you to all the River Champions out there! | © Scott Bosse

The River Champions have been selected! As part of the 40th anniversary of American Rivers, we wanted to celebrate the river community by highlighting some of the heroes in river conservation. Our staff chose the first 20 champions and over the past month we asked our readers to submit nominations for the people or organizations they considered to be true river stewards. From those nominations we selected the second 20 to name as River Champions.

It was exciting to read through the nominations and see how much hard work and dedication has been put forth to protect and restore America’s rivers. The most interesting part is the diversity in the nominations. They ranged from individuals cleaning up their local streams to organizations tearing down outdated dams. We received nominations from all over the country.

Individuals and local organizations are the heartbeat of the river conservation movement. Our work to protect wild rivers, restore damaged rivers, and conserve clean water wouldn’t be possible without these champions.

Thank you!
