Area of Focus: Stacey provides support to government relations and conservation staff, specifically working towards federal clean water policy that promotes green infrastructure and reduces sewage spills and polluted stormwater runoff.

Background: Stacey joined American Rivers in 2009. Prior to this, she served as an intern with the Pew Environment Group where she worked on reforming salmon aquaculture standards and advocating for the protection of vulnerable Antarctic krill and tuna species. Stacey also worked with the Pennsylvania Environmental Council where she worked on stormwater management and green infrastructure projects in Philadelphia.

Education: B.A. in Environmental Studies and Public Policy from Connecticut College in New London, CT.

Favorite River: Schuylkill River

The Latest Threat to Clean Water

Today, the House is voting on the Energy and Water Development Appropriations Act of FY 2013 today, which includes a dirty water provision that would prevent the Army Corps of Engineers from clarifying the scope of the Clean Water Act and restoring protections to small streams and wetlands.

Dirty Water Bill in the House

The latest attack on clean water takes the form of the ‘Clean Water for Cooperative Federalism Act of 2011’ (H.R. 2018) introduced by Representative Jon Mica (R-FL). More accurately titled the “Dirty Water Act of 2011,” this bill has very little to do with actually protecting and restoring clean water supplies for our communities. Instead, this bill threatens the very safeguards in the Clean Water Act that protect our safe, clean water.
