Sandra Adams

Senior Vice President of Advancement
Department: Resource Development

Area of Focus: Sandra leads the efforts to gain financial support for American Rivers.

Background: Sandra joined American Rivers in 2011. She brings three decades of nonprofit development, communications and event marketing experience. Throughout her career her focus has been on environmental advocacy through her work with the National Parks Conservation Association and The Wilderness Society and on improving the status of women in positions with the AAUW Educational Foundation, American Nurses Association, and National Breast Cancer Coalition.

An avid student and proponent of philanthropy, she was elected Chair of the Association of Fundraising Professionals national board of directors, served as President of their Washington, DC chapter, and is one of only 150 people to have achieved the Advanced Certified Fundraising Executive credential. She was named Washington's Outstanding Fund Raising Executive of the Year in 1994.

Sandra and her husband Tom Roberts enjoy recreational kayaking in rivers near their home in Washington, DC.

Education: BA cum laude, Mercyhurst College, MA University of Massachusetts-Amherst

Favorite River: Potomac, Patuxent, and Choptank Rivers
