TITLE: River Protection Intern
REPORTS TO: Most Endangered Rivers Coordinator
LOCATION: Anywhere in the U.S.
Are you interested in working at the leading environmental non-profit for river conservation? American Rivers is seeking a River Protection Intern in the Conservation Department located either at our Washington, D.C. office or working remotely elsewhere in the U.S. This program provides an excellent opportunity to gain experience dealing with the natural resource policy and protection of rivers across the country. Learn about the nation’s best rivers and how to protect them through Wild and Scenic River designation while experiencing the world of non-profit conservation first hand!
This intern will work directly with River Protection staff across the country to develop a comprehensive analysis of the management of Wild and Scenic Rivers. Responsibilities would include interviewing Wild and Scenic River stakeholders, compiling and organizing data from interviews, and drafting sections of a report on the status of Wild and Scenic River management. Other activities include compilation of a database of management plans for federal lands, and other river protection activities as needed.
- Excellent writing, editing, and research skills
- Ability to work with minimal guidance
- Strong organizational and time management skills
- Background in natural resources or conservation preferred
- Passion for environmental issues
- Excellent interpersonal skills to interact professionally within a diverse community
- Advanced degree preferred

TIME COMMITMENT AND PAY:
American Rivers’ internships are unpaid; however, we will work with the successful applicant to obtain school credit if available. The position requires a minimum of 20 hours per week, with the option to work remotely.
