Darcy Nonemacher
Associate Director, Washington Conservation Programs
Department: Conservation
Area of Focus: Darcy works with local partners to protect rivers through designation under the Wild and Scenic Rivers Act. She also advocates for river-friendly polici¬es at the state level, including renewable energy incentives, climate change adaptation strategies, and ecosystem services.
Background: Darcy joined American Rivers in 2007. Prior to American Rivers, Darcy worked on a wide range of environmental and public health campaigns including reducing air pollution from coal fired power plants, promoting renewable energy, climate change mitigation, and promoting sustainable agriculture and family farms. In addition, Darcy managed election campaigns in several states and worked with the AFL-CIO to create an affiliate organization for non-union households.
As a former whitewater guide, Darcy enjoys not only working to protect rivers put participating in the "mandatory" office river trip each year.
Education: B.A. in International Environmental Policy from the University of Connecticut, and a J.D. from Seattle University School of Law.
Favorite River: Two-way tie between the Middle Fork of the Flathead and the Swan River in Montana.

This summer, Seattle Magazine released their "Water Issue," which included information on the incredible rivers in western Washington that people often enjoy when the sun comes out. Overall, I think the article is a good resource for most people looking to enjoy the area's whitewater, but there is at least one clear omission on the author's list of remarkable whitewater rivers, the North Fork of the Nooksack River.
