Department: Conservation

Area of Focus: Andrew directs and manages a department of more than 30 staff from around the country responsible for developing, advocating, and implementing innovative policy and science tools that deliver healthy rivers and healthy communities that are resilient in the face of a changing climate.

Background: Andrew joined American Rivers in 1997 and served as Coordinator of the Hydropower Reform Coalition. He then moved on to focus on broad scale reform of dams and advocated in changes to their operations as well as selective removal. He has served on several governmental advisory groups, testified before the U.S. Senate and House of Representatives as well as numerous federal agencies, and participated in various policy forums and negotiations addressing water policy in the United States. Specific issue areas include energy, water supply, dams, wild river protection, and stormwater management.

Education: B.A. in Human Ecology and Archaeology from Colorado College, and M.S. in Natural Resource Policy and Administration from School of Natural Resources and Environment at the University of Michigan

What Global Warming Looks Like: A View from Pennsylvania

Last weekend, I was supposed to take part in a cleanup along a section of the Conestoga River near Lancaster, Pennsylvania.  I was excited about the prospect of getting out on the river with the employees of Manheim Corporation who were generously volunteering their time to lend a hand to a local resource.

Colorado’s Arkansas River, flowing through Bighorn Sheep Canyon is one of the most majestic and storied rivers in Colorado and the nation.  Thousands of citizens raft and fish the river every year and it has served the needs of the Ute people for more than ten thousand years.
